Our History
In January 1982 the Ministry of Industry of (I) founded the Industrial Technical High School, the origins of the university.
The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) was formed on 2nd October, 1996. In August 1998, this THS School was transferred to the Ministry of Education from the Ministry of Industry (I). The school became a Government Technical Institute (GTI), offering two-year diplomas on vocational studies. The Government Technological Institute was transferred from the Ministry of Education to the newly formed The Ministry of Science and Technology on 1st January, 1997.
On 2nd December, 1999, GTI was upgraded to a Government Technological College (GTC) which offered a four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programs. On 20th January, 2007 GTC began to offer bachelor degree programmers in engineering and was promoted to Technological University and was named Technological University (Dawei).
It offered four Engineering Programs, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
On 7th January, 2002, University of Computer Studies (Dawei) was opened in Education College Campus situated in Shan Ma Lei Swe’ Ward, Dawei. A Computer application course with 44 students and a first year course with 3 students were opened. Since 2004, the Computer University has annually produced graduates.
On 20th January 2007, the Computer College was upgraded into the University of Computer Studies (Dawei) and in 2008, two graduates of Master of Information Science were produced from our University.
In January,2009, the University was moved to Block N0(37), East Myaw Inn Airport Road, Nyaung-Yang –Taung Ward, Dawei.
It offered Information Technology, Bachelor of Computer Science (B.C.Sc.) and Bachelor of Computer Technology (B.C.Tech.)
Polytechnic University (Dawei) is one of the polytechnic Universities in Myanmar. On 21th November, 2024 Polytechnic University (Dawei) was upgraded by combining with Technological University (Dawei) and University of Computer Studies (Dawei). The aim of Polytechnic University is to teach engineering and IT subjects to students for the development of relevant area and turn out qualified human resources for workplaces.
Today, technology is changed day by day. To keep abreast of new technological changes, students are needed supportive learning environment to solve this problem. The courses which are prescribed on Polytechnic University are hand-on learning experiments that prepare students for real world challenges.
Polytechnic University (Dawei) offers academic programmes are Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Computer Technology. Students have to spend five years for Bachelor of Engineering and four years for Bachelor of Computer Science.
The opening ceremony of Polytechnic University (Dawei) was held on 21th November, 2024 and regional chief minister, departmental officials, teachers, students, and other invitees were attended on the occasion. The chief minister, U Myat Ko and authorized persons opened the Polytechnic University (Dawei) by cutting ceremonial ribbons and unveiling the signage. Now, students are studying actively and happily at the Polytechnic University (Dawei).
